The English edition of NEK 400:2010 provides minimum safety requirements for electrical low voltage installations, both general and specific to Norway.
NEK 400 is a collection of a total of 40 separate standards (parts). The standard series provides minimum safety requirements for electrical low voltage installations. Each part (except for the standards in NEK 400-8 being purely national) is based on corresponding international standards from CENELEC and/or IEC.
NEK 400 provides rules for the design, erection and verification of electrical installations. The rules are intended to provide for the safety of persons, livestock and property against dangers and damage that may arise by reasonable use of electrical installations, and to provide for the proper functioning of those installations.
The English edition of NEK 400:2010 came about as a result of great demand from Norwegian companies importing equipment and labor, as well as international companies working in Norway. It provides access for English speakers to requirements specific to Norway. These are based on, among other things, climatic conditions and govementment requirements.
