Course in NORSOK Subsea systems in the oil and gas industry

Regulations and standardisation that complement each other are of great importance for safety critical industries such as the oil and gas industry. Norwegian safety authorities selected an approach in 2002 where regulations were formulated mainly as functional requirements. These are based upon the availability of updated industry standards to detail requirements to a larger degree. It is therefore important to learn to understand and to see these documents in context.

Course description
The course will provide the following:

  • An introduction to overall subsea systems and the interdependence between regulations and industry standards/norms.
  • An introduction to regulatory regimes and their interrelation to international and national standards/norms, including an introduction to and status of the ISO 13628 series and NORSOK U 001.
  • Information on the standardisation status and future challenges, international and national.
  • Information on the need for standardised interfaces and equipment, to achieve safe and efficient solutions for specific field developments on a higher system level.
  • A look at future system trends and challenges to meet new frontiers and operational conditions.

The course material is in English and the presentations will be either in English or Norwegian dependent upon the requirements/preferences of the participants.

Goal

The object of the course is to give the participants an updated insight into and understanding of subsea systems and the interdependence of regulations/regulatory regimes and industry standards/norms, as well as serve as an introduction to future trends and developments.
